Metal Siding Installation Overview
Metal Siding and Wall Panels installation begins with choosing the right profile and Material for your project. Some of the more popular options include Vertical Standing Seam Panels, Flush Wall Panels, Reveal Panels (1/4 inch to 4 inch reveal) Box Rib Style Panels, Simple Corrugated Panels, Interlocking Square Panels and literally hundreds of variations of these panels .
Once the proper Panel and material (Please visit our Material Types Page) has been selected, Our Installers will begin with waterproofing the Substrate that will be behind the Metal Siding, in most situations we like to use a High Temperature Water and Ice shield. It is imperative that the substrate is true and level before installation of the Metal Siding begins. In some situations we will install furring strips or metal channels that can be blocked out or spaced to attempt to level out the walls. The substrate should Ideally be 5/8 or thicker Plywood, however we can go over Stucco and open framing in some situations.
After Waterproofing and leveling are complete, Our Highly skilled Team will begin to Install the beautiful metal panels on your property. Panels can be installed vertically, Horizontally, or on an angle. In some situations panels can be mixed with different styles and colors to achieve a unique appearance.
Some Panels can be fabricated in sizes up to 50 feet in length However, "Oil Canning" as well as Expansion and Contraction of the Metal should be taken into consideration. (The longer the panel is the more likely they are to have some oil Canning) Oil caning which appears as small ripples or waves in the material is more prevalent in broad flat panels. Expansion and Contraction can also Cause a wavy appearance on broad Flat panels when viewed at certain angles. With some profiles there may be some waviness only in the heat of the day and then they go away as the sun goes down. Oil Canning as well as Expansion and Contraction are perfectly normal and acceptable factors in the industry and should not be confused with poor Workmanship. (They Should however be discussed with the customer beforehand so that they can make an informed decision when selecting the correct Metal Siding or Wall panel) The thickness and size of the panel can help to cut down on waviness, however there really is no way to avoid some expansion or Contraction waviness. Lighter Colors obviously absorb less heat and tend to show these waves less. If this look is not appealing to you, you should choose one of the profiles that contain a larger series of bends or curves like corrugated or Box Rib Panels. or for the extremely particular customer ACM panels or Aluminum Composite Materials can be used. (These are a Much more expensive option that requires Solid framework to be installed on the Substrate and a Route and return method for fabricating each individual panel. Due to the amount of work Required, Costs of the Material, and skill level required to install, the huge costs associated with it usually prevents or discourages the average homeowner from pursuing this option. ACM Panels are generally seen on Commercial Structures and Rarely used on Residential Properties.
